Today in 1830

We like events, celebrations, dates that anchor us to this great big world. There are events that have changed the world, phenomena that have shaped our cultures and the ways we see and understand the world around us. When we travel we try to understand the how’s and why’s.

Well, today March 26 in 1830 the Book of Mormon was published in Palmyra, NY.

But what does that have to do with our travels?

  1. The oldest non-native building in Nevada is the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort. Today, this State History Park offers insights to the times in the mid 1800’s when Mormon missionaries helped build the city. Without these guys, Las Vegas might be a lot different.
  2. Salt Lake City. We’ve been to Utah for a while when visiting Zion National Park but have not seen Salt Lake and Utah’s most popular attraction(3-5 million visitors annually) The Temple Square which includes the Mormon headquarters.
  3. The Book Of Mormon, the musical. We’ve never found good tickets to the show across the Atlantic. May 2016 in London we finally got to see this superb production. We suggest this experience for everyone!
