On the Footsteps of: James Bond (and Fontainebleu Miami)

We are suckers for Mr. Bond. And we’ve noticed that our travels have often crossed the paths of James Bond. Miami is one of those places.

After the opening credits of Goldfinger (1964) there’s an aerial shot with Bond entering a luxurious pool area, John Barry’s big-band playing “Into Miami”. Well, this was Fontainebleu. This iconic Miami Beach oceanfront resort, within the heart of millionaires row,  was designed by Morris Lapidus and it’s the ultimate eye candy for architecture and design enthusiasts. This beauty was opened in 1954, but has gone through major renovations within last 10 years.

In the James Bond movie, the unfortunate beauty Jill Masterson gets murdered by Oddjob in one those rooms of this Miami Modern Architecture masterpiece. But that didn’t stop us from booking a stay here.

This is one of those places where you feel stepping into other era. Guys like Frank Sinatra could step from around the corner anytime.

During our stay we spent delicious moments at the Gotham Steak (now Strip Steak). Each evening we sat at their bar discussing with fellow travellers and the lovely staff. Had some drinks and ordered dinner. (In the US we love to sit at the bar of the restaurants as you get to interact so much more than at a regular restaurant table.) The afternoons we enjoyed our pool & beach moments. The room was spacious, fresh, clean. Just waiting when Mr. Bond joins us for some cocktails.

  1. Skype has opened up its internet-based customer beta on the world,
after establishing it broadly from the United states
and U.K. previously this calendar month.
Skype for Website also now facilitates Linux and Chromebook for
immediate messaging connection (no video and voice however,
these require a connect-in set up).

The expansion from the beta contributes support for a longer listing
of spoken languages to help reinforce that international user friendliness
