Wondering where to travel 2018? DINKgo did some digging to discover some destinations that have something special going on next year! We haven’t booked anything for 2018, have you?
New Orleans, USA
New Orleans Tricentennial, the 300th Anniversary will fill Big Easy with endless events. Celebrate the history, colorful culture, diversity, past, present and the future. You can find more on the Tricentennial here (the official celebration site) and start planning with the New Orleans Official Tourism site . They have, BTW, the most awesome newsletter!
Our last visit was April 2017 and we would love to return any day, NOLA is one of our all time favorites. The people, the food, the music, the events, the history, the vibe. Not surprised many people never return home after visiting. Our DINKgo list of 4 Must Do things can be found here.
Republic of Korea
The XXIII Olympic Winter Games will be held for 17 days from 9 to 25 February 2018 in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province, the Republic of Korea.
Korea is definitely a destination on our bucket list. However, we are not great sport fans and will avoid the winter season (we have enough of that at home). For anyone enjoying those two elements, the Olympic season would be a memorable one. For us it will be another reason and another season.
Anyways, Nylon Pink blog has done all the hard work for us in search of the best Korea travel blogs covering everything from cultural traditions, delicacies, festivals and so on. Tons of good reasons to book a trip! And don’t forget the Korea Tourism Organization they will provide the official information on various travel themes!
This tropical island’s Golden Jubilee takes place 2018, 50th Independence Day will be celebrated March 12. Mauritius, situated outside the South Eastern coast of the African continent, is a popular choice for destination weddings (Mikaela has learned that during her years organizing wedding fairs) and the island where the now extinct Dodo birds habited ages ago. After visiting the then (and somewhat still) remote Mauritius in 1896, Mark Twain quoted an islander: “Mauritius was made first and then heaven; and heaven was copied after Mauritius.”
Flip flops and warm sand – tempting!
As we searched for information on the island, we learned 40 fun facts about Mauritius from the blog Traveling With The Jones and read The Travelista‘s great tips for alternative activities to enjoy on this magnificent island – there’s so much more than the beach & the palm trees!
Earlier this year, the Government of Dominica took the decision that the year 2018 shall be observed as a Reunion Year to mark the 40th Anniversary of Independence of the Commonwealth of Dominica. The theme was revealed in July 2017: My Love, My Home, My Dominica. Reunion Year will be filled with events.
Warm sea and sandy beaches
We haven’t visited this particular island, but got curious and found an awesome post by bloggers Doris and Dicky, who visited Dominica in 2016. They have listed best things to do and also given details on where to stay and how to get there. And hey, many of the scenes of the “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Dead Man’s Chest” were filmed here! All this made us dream of island hopping.
You can also learn more about this Caribbean gem from the official Dominica Tourism site here.
Estonia, Lithuania & Latvia
These three countries will all celebrate 100 years of Independence 2018 and actually, the celebrations for the Baltic Centenary have started already. The Estonian Anniversary site is a good address to start learning more.
Visiting these countries for us is a lot easier than most of the other ones on the list as Estonia is just cross the Baltic Sea and flights to Lithuania & Latvia are short and cheap. These countries have all their own, unique characteristics and surprise visitors as countries that have built in cultural details from both East and West.
Come next spring and summer, why not head there? It is interesting and educating reading about the visits and experiences of people from across the globe – we may be too near to see the countries near to us as interesting as they really are. Therefore, we like reading posts like this The Top 10 Things To Do in Tallinn, Estonia by World of Wanderlust.
